Welcome Message
Dear Colleagues,

We are privileged to hold the 23rd INTERSPEECH Conference from September 18 to 22, 2022 at Songdo ConvensiA, in Incheon, Korea, under the theme Human and Humanizing Speech Technology. INTERSPEECH is the world’s largest and most comprehensive conference on the science and technology of spoken language processing. INTERSPEECH conferences emphasize interdisciplinary approaches addressing all aspects of speech science and technology, ranging from basic theory to advanced applications.

Over the history of mankind, humans’ ability to formulate thoughts and feelings and to communicate with each other has all been evolved from basically talking to other people. As machines have become more frequently available and readily accessible in our daily lives, our need has grown as much for realizing natural interaction with them. With the rapid progress in AI on speech and language applications over the 5G network services provided worldwide, we are at the onset of building our vision of creating a full ecosystem of natural speech and language technology applications. The conference theme “Human and Humanizing Speech Technology” formulates the vision of the scientific and industrial community to commit endeavors to continue the effort in speech science toward humanizing the spoken language technology, so the impact becomes a game changer that goes beyond the current state-of-the-art we serve, and ultimately the society as a whole experiences the benefits.

Truly a city of the future, Songdo sits adjacent to Seoul, regarded as one of the technology capitals of the world. The city’s underground railway already offers high speed WiFi, with electronic panels at the exits and provides the waiting time for connecting to buses or trains, while companies like Samsung Electronics are already working on linking household devices to mobile phones. On the technological front, Songdo is a brand new city that offers the chance to truly integrate innovation into a daily life.

Koreans are immensely proud of their language, known as Hangul, which was invented in 1443. The Hunminjeongeum Manuscript, a document providing a detailed explanation of the purpose and guiding principles behind the alphabets and sounds of Hangeul, was included in UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register in 1997. As organizers, we plan to create special events that feature Korean culture and promote understanding of the Korean alphabets and sounds. The conference program will be full of rewarding and exciting experiences.

The global pandemic has accelerated the advancement of Al technologies. Speech technology is the key to connecting humans to machines, and machines to each other. INTERSPEECH 2022 will serve as a showcase, virtually and physically, for demonstrating new and experimental speech technologies. We invite sponsors and industry partners for sponsorship of this prestigious conference, and for showcasing their products and services are exhibited online and offline.

As we are thrilled to see the COVID vaccines being distributed around the world, it is very hopeful at this point in time that we may be able to see you physically in person at INTERSPEECH 2022. So we invite everyone to join us to share new research findings and enjoy plenty of time for networking with delegates from academia, research institutes, governments, and industries. We look forward to seeing you at Songdo ConvensiA, in Incheon, Korea. Thank you.

Sincerely yours,
